What keeps carpet wet too long
- Overwetting. Too much water, or not enough pulled back out, soaks the pad.
- Slow drying. Humid weather, closed up rooms, and no airflow stretch drying time.
- A pad that was already wet. Cleaning over a leak or a pet accident that soaked through adds moisture to a problem.

Signs carpet is drying too slowly
Carpet should feel dry within about 12 hours of a wet cleaning, per CRI. Call the cleaner back if it's still damp after a day, smells musty, shows brown spots, or has ripples that haven't settled after 48 hours. Those point to moisture in the pad or backing.
