How do you get blood out of carpet?
Short answer
Put on gloves, then blot small spots with a cloth dampened in cool water. Mist a few drops of dish soap in a cup of water and blot, then try 3% hydrogen peroxide on leftover color if the carpet is synthetic. Rinse and blot dry. The IICRC says large spills need a technician trained in hazardous waste removal.

Part 1 of 4
Safety first with blood
The IICRC says to treat blood as potentially infectious and to wear eye protection, gloves, and long sleeves. That goes for pet blood too. Keep kids away while you clean, and wash your hands when you're done.
Part 2 of 4
Fresh spots and dried ones
Fresh drops are the easiest. Blot, then use the water and dish soap steps below. Dried blood takes patience: repeat the soap and water rounds, then try 3% hydrogen peroxide on synthetic carpet, which the IICRC says can take several hours or a few tries.
Some stains won't fully come out. The IICRC notes medications in the blood can leave dye behind.

When to call a pro
Large spills, like after an injury, need a company trained in biohazard cleanup. The IICRC says that takes hazardous waste training, and OxyMagic doesn't do that work. For small, old spots, stains on wool, or color that stays, we'll look first and tell you straight what will come out, since results depend on the fiber and the stain. See carpet cleaning.
