Can you get carpets cleaned in winter?
Short answer
Yes, and OxyMagic cleans all winter. We carry our equipment inside, so no hose runs from a truck to your door, and the door closes behind us. Dry winter air helps carpet dry, and most carpets are dry in an hour or two, depending on the carpet and the weather.

Part 1 of 5
No hose through your front door
Truck mounted steam cleaning runs hoses from a van into your house, so a door stays open a crack while the crew works. In winter, Cleanfax, a trade magazine for carpet cleaners, tells those crews to cover the gap with a door shield.
We carry our equipment inside, so the door closes behind us and your heat stays in. That's why OxyMagic keeps cleaning all winter.

Why winter works for carpet cleaning
Heated winter air is dry, and dry air helps damp carpet dry. CRI says to use ventilation or fans to speed drying, and in winter your furnace fan does a lot of that work. The University of Minnesota Extension also suggests cracking a window briefly in winter to let warm, moist air out.
OxyMagic cleans with a low moisture process, and most carpets are dry in an hour or two, depending on the carpet and the weather. Keep boots and paws off until it's dry.
Part 3 of 5
What salt and slush do to carpet
Salt and ice melt dry into white, crusty marks near doors and make carpet soil faster, per the IICRC. Entry areas that stay wet all winter can also delaminate, meaning the backing layers start to separate.
Pets add to it. The MPCA notes deicing salt irritates paw pads, so wiping paws at the door helps your dog and keeps salt off the carpet. More on winter salt and carpet.
Part 4 of 5
How to handle salt stains
Vacuum the dry salt first. Then blot with a cloth dampened in warm water, a little at a time, since salt dissolves in water. If there's greasy slush mixed in, use a few drops of dish soap in a cup of water, then rinse with plain water and blot dry.
If a white ring comes back as it dries, that's salt wicking up from below. Repeat the rinse, or have it cleaned professionally.
Part 5 of 5
Keep winter salt off your carpet
Put washable walk off mats inside and outside every door.
Take boots off at the door.
Wipe your dog's paws when they come in.
Vacuum entry areas often, especially after a snowfall.
Blot slushy spots with warm water before they dry.
Book a deep clean in late winter to pull out salt residue.

Will my house get cold while you clean?
It shouldn't. We bring everything inside and close the door behind us, so there's no hose holding a door open.
How long does carpet take to dry in winter?
With OxyMagic's low moisture process, most carpets are dry in an hour or two, depending on the carpet and the weather. Running the furnace fan helps. CRI's standard for wet cleaned carpet is dry within 12 hours.
Does road salt damage carpet?
Salt and ice melt residue make carpet soil faster, per the IICRC, and entries that stay wet in winter can delaminate over time. Mats, boots off, and quick blotting help.
Should I open windows to dry carpet in winter?
Usually you don't need to, since heated winter air is dry. The University of Minnesota Extension says briefly cracking a window lets warm, moist air out and dry air in, so a short airing can help.
